Meet Bryan –
Bryan has been with Valley Energy since the summer of 2017. Initially, he was hired part-time to accomplish some data entry projects. After a few weeks of getting to know the company and staff, a full-time position opened up, and he jumped at the chance to apply!
For the next two years, he worked as a data analyst and handled billing for fuel deliveries, service work, and fleet fueling, which helped him get to know the customer base. In 2019, another position opened up within the accounting department, and he was ready to try something new. Almost six years later, he remains the Controller and enjoys coming to work each day to solve accounting puzzles and serve the company and its customers.
Bryan grew up just outside of Dallas, Texas and moved to Virginia in 2014. He still misses the warmer weather, but the community of people and excitement of being near DC makes Northern Virginia a great place to live. He has immediate and extended family all over the country, and takes every opportunity to visit and celebrate birthdays, weddings, and reunions with them
When he isn’t at Valley Energy, you might find Bryan teaching a piano lesson, taking a class, or traveling to someplace new. He has taught piano to almost 70 students around Loudoun County over the last ten years, and loves the chance to watch each one of them grow in their abilities, work ethic, and musical competency.
Every student is different and Bryan enjoys the challenge of fine-tuning a teaching approach that fits the learning style and personality traits of students from all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels.
Bryan and his students have performed at churches, nursing homes, and special events around Loudoun County and are always ready for a new opportunity to share the gift of music with an audience.
In 2022, Bryan decided to further his education and applied to an MBA program that would provide both classroom and real-world learning experiences.
As part of this program, he’s had the opportunity to work with other students across different industries and learn from all their careers have to offer. They have worked together on many group projects virtually, as well as traveled to Casablanca in Morocco, Disney World in Florida, and will soon be heading to Dubai in the UAE to get both domestic and global hands-on experience. In Casablanca, the team worked with a corporation to assess upcoming water scarcity issues that the country will be facing. Three teams developed practical solutions that correlated with the client’s business model and goals over the next 10 years, and Bryan’s team of 5 students was awarded first place by the client.
At Disney World, Bryan attended the Disney Institute program and received training on the process and values (or, “The Five Keys”) that Disney uses to achieve their magical guest experience. They were allowed “backstage” for tours of two parks and conversations with staff at various levels that attested to Disney’s intentional approach to their staff that enables and empowers them to provide the highest quality service to park visitors. In Dubai, Bryan will be learning about emerging global markets that are rising to prominence and hopes to grow in a global mindset that will help him to understand and implement business approaches that value diverse perspectives and unite people around our shared goals.
He hopes to finish the program in 2025 and will tell everyone that he is done with school forever (which is exactly what he said after completing undergrad in 2017). Whatever the future holds, this MBA has been one-of-a-kind.
In his free time at home, Bryan is involved with his local church and non-profits that offer service opportunities. Most recently he has started training with an organization that matches adult mentors to youth that are aging out of the foster care system without parents to encourage them as they step into adulthood and find their footing. He is excited to connect and learn from the experiences of young folks and provide a sounding board for them in a stage of life that is both difficult and (hopefully) rewarding.
