Moving into a new home or switching energy providers can feel like a daunting task. If you are new to propane, you might be wondering: “Where do I start?” At Valley Energy, we understand that your first propane order comes with a lot of questions—from how much fuel you’ll need to knowing what to expect on delivery day. Valley Energy has provided propane, heating oil, and professional service to our neighbors in Northern Virginia and West Virginia for multiple generations.
If you’re ready to experience reliable, local service, here is your five-step guide to becoming a Valley Energy customer.
1. Contact Our Office
The most direct way to begin is to notify our team of your intent to join or your upcoming move-in date. We can help determine whether your new home already has a Valley Energy tank on-site or whether we need to coordinate a new customer safety check for a customer-owned tank.
- Phone: 540-338-6457
- Email: info@valleyenergy.org
- Visit Us: 117 North Bailey Lane, Purcellville, VA 20132
2. Complete the Application
To get you into our system, you’ll need to fill out a Residential Propane Account Application. This can be done conveniently online or in person at our Purcellville office.
You will need to provide:
- Contact information and service address.
- Details on your propane usage (e.g., heating, cooking, water heating, or pool).
- Tank ownership details.
Note on Tank Leasing: If your tank is owned by Valley Energy, an additional form called a “Tank Lease Agreement” will be required. Once we receive your initial application, we will email this agreement to you for a digital signature.
3. Application Review & Approval
Once submitted, a Valley Energy account specialist will contact you to acknowledge receipt and request any additional information. On average, you will receive a follow-up email within 2-3 business days regarding your approval status and important account details for your records.
4. The Propane Safety Check
Safety isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s our priority. As a new customer, we perform a full safety inspection before your first fill. This is required if:
- You are a new customer.
- We are servicing a tank for the first time.
- The system hasn’t been filled in 3+ years.
- There has been a service interruption.
What to expect: You must be present for this appointment, as our technician needs access to the inside of your home. We will perform a pressure test, inspect gas lines for leaks, check valves/regulators, and relight your pilot lights. We’ll also show you how to shut off your tank in case of an emergency.
Quick Tip: Per insurance requirements, any regulators over 20 years old must be replaced prior to your first delivery.
5. Your First Delivery
Once the safety check is complete, you are ready for your first delivery! You don’t need to be home for standard deliveries. To make things even easier, we offer automated text messages to notify you the moment your delivery is complete.
Simplify Your Life: Automatic Delivery & Flexible Payments
We believe managing your home’s energy should be hassle-free. Valley Energy places all leased tanks on Automatic Scheduled Delivery. Our system tracks the weather and your usage history to ensure you never run low, typically delivering every 45–60 days during the winter. Although if temperatures are more extreme, more frequent deliveries may be required.
Want to make budgeting easier? Ask us about our Smart Pay and Pre-Buy programs. These options allow you to manage your energy costs with predictable monthly payments or by locking in a rate before the winter chill hits.
Trust Your Local Partners
